Sirti is the Italian leader in telecom network engineering: The group designs, builds, installs and provides maintenance for telecommunications systems and networks; this activity accounts for approximately 60% of total revenues. Sirti is also active in the engineering of railway signals, electricity networks and information systems.
Sirti’s customer base includes telecommunications, urban transit, rail, motorway, radio and television operators, and government agencies. Its largest customers are Telecom Italia (approximately 40% of sales) and Ferrovie dello Stato.
The Group generates 90% of its revenues in Italy, where it has a nationwide network of technicians and partners.
The group’s consolidated revenues fell 10% year on year to €704 million in 2009.
This decline is attributable primarily to pressure on volumes and prices in the telecommunications market and the completion of certain large highspeed train line projects.
Activity abroad was mixed, with a maintained activity in Libya but unsatisfactory results in Spain and Saudi Arabia.
The reorganization initiated in 2009 to make Sirti’s structure more fl exible and effi cient will continue in 2010, in an economic environment that remains diffi cult and uncertain. The company is in discussions with its banking partners to adapt its fi nancing to this new environment.
The company’s medium-term growth prospects are contingent upon the deployment of Italy’s New Generation Network, the partnership with the Libyan telecom operator, and Sirti’s ability to market its R&D in the railway sector with the maturing of the fi rst products developed by its research center.
